Daniel Simón (b. 1998, Los Teques, Venezuela) is a photographer and director based in Barcelona.
After leaving Venezuela at seventeen, his practice has evolved across continents and disciplines, exploring how perception, memory, and context shape the way we construct reality. Working between photography and film, Simón uses observation as both method and subject—a way to navigate the tension between what is visible and what is felt.
Before developing his current visual language, he worked within commercial and documentary environments, producing films and campaigns that deepened his interest in the relationship between image and truth. His short documentary Raised by Sand & Salty Water (2022), a portrait of a Moroccan skater, premiered at the Paris Surf & Skate Film Festival (2023) and was later selected by the Canarias Surf Film Festival (2024), No Man’s Land Film Festival (USA, 2024 & World Tour), and the Bentonville Film Festival (USA, 2024). The film was later released globally through WaterBear Network.
Simón’s photographic work has been featured in ArtDoc Magazine’s The Meditative Lens – Patterns of Stillness (2025) and exhibited in collective shows including The October Press (Alicante, 2020), Alicante Photofestival (2020), and El Sótano (2019). He received an Honorable Mention at FotoSlovo 2025 in the Documentary/Reportage category. His projects and ideas have been shared in platforms such as We Are Moving Stories and Daaily Magazine, where he led the masterclass How To Create An Image (2023).
Rooted in the dialogue between different cultural and philosophical contexts, his practice examines the flexibility of perception, the instability of truth, and the emotional states that emerge in the space between certainty and doubt.
